Wednesday is an American supernatural comedy horror streaming television series based on Charles Addams' character Wednesday Addams.

It was written and directed by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar and stars Jenna Ortega as the titular character, with Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez, Gwendoline Christie, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Fred Armisen, and Christina Ricci in supporting roles.

Tim Burton, who also serves as executive producer, directs four of the eight episodes.

It follows Wednesday Addams as she tries to solve a monster mystery at her school.

Burton previously worked on a postponed stop-motion animated The Addams Family film.

He was reported to be directing a television series in October 2020, which was later given a series order by Netflix.

Ortega was cast to represent the character's Latina heritage in part.

Burton asked Ricci, who had played the titular character in the 1991 film and its 1993 sequel, to join the series in a supporting role.
Between September 2021 and March 2022, Romania was the location for filming.

Wednesday premiered on Netflix on November 16, 2022, and received mostly positive reviews from critics, who praised Ortega's performance.

It became the second-most watched English-language Netflix series within three weeks of its release.

Ortega was nominated for two Golden Globes: Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy and Best Actress - Television Series Musical or Comedy.

Story Premise

Wednesday Addams is expelled from school for dumping live piranhas into the pool as retaliation for the boys' water polo team bullying her brother, Pugsley.

As a result, her parents, Gomez and Morticia Addams, enrol her in Nevermore Academy, a private school for monstrous outcasts, in the town of Jericho, Vermont.

Wednesday's cold, emotionless personality and defiant nature make it difficult for her to connect with her classmates and get in trouble with the principal.

She discovers, however, that she has inherited her mother's psychic abilities, which enable her to solve a local murder mystery.
